A couple of posts back I mentioned that I've (very belatedly) gotten into Loretta Lynn - aka the First Lady of country music. After listening to her music non-stop, I recently came across the biopic Coal Miner's Daughter, which charts the life of Loretta from poor coal miner's daughter to the biggest star in country music. Loretta is played by the wonderful Sissy Spacek, along with a bunch of other recognizable faces. It's well worth checking out if you're a biopic fiend like I am!

I love movies about conmen. And I love Robert Redford. Thusly, The Sting is one of my favorite movies! Redford and Paul Newman play cons trying to pull off a major sting in retribution for the death of their friend. Put it on your must-watch list if you haven't seen it!

The Warriors is my all time favorite movie, bar none. I still remember the first time I stumbled across it, just beginning on TV super late at night. I'm pretty sure I watched the whole thing with my jaw dropped open in astonishment - the uniqueness, the atmosphere, the dialogue, the visuals... it all drew me in like no movie had ever done before. I've loved a lot of movies in my time, but I don't think anything will ever come close to this. It was made in 1979, so it just sneaks in to my 30s - 70s theme of the blog! Here's one of the pivotal moments of the film, Cyrus' speech. Can you count, suckersss? I say the future is ours - IF you can count...

Barbara Streisand is divine in this, one of my top 3 all time favorite movies. It gets a bad rap sometimes, but I love the story. It's not your typical love story! There's so much subtext that you really need to watch it multiple times to get it. If you haven't seen it, put it on your list. Check out this scene where Katie wins over a hostile crowd with her speech (almost - you'll need to watch the movie to see what happens next!).
