Last night veteran TV journalist Peter Harvey passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Harvey was an exceptional journalist with an esteemed 50-year career. He was present for some of the biggest events in recent history, covering the Vietnam War and the Gulf War, and being the most trusted go-to in Australian politics. Harvey won a Walkley Award in 1964 for his coverage of a police shooting.
His colleague, Peter Hartcher, has this to say about Harvey:
He was always fair and fair-minded, but the main thing to say about Peter is, he was always a gentleman in an industry not known for them.
